Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to renal oncology patients, including monitoring vital signs and reporting changes.

  • Monitor intravenous lines, catheters, and other renal oncology equipment.

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Medical/Surgical team at our Jackson, MI facility. In this full-time night shift position on 6SE Renal Oncology, you will provide high-quality patient care to individuals undergoing treatment for renal cancer and related conditions. You will work collaboratively with physicians, registered nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver evidence-based nursing care while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and comfort.

  • Provide direct patient care to renal oncology patients, including monitoring vital signs, assessing patient conditions, and reporting changes to the nursing team
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to safety protocols
  • Assist with patient hygiene, comfort measures, and activities of daily living while maintaining patient dignity and privacy
  • Monitor and maintain intravenous lines, catheters, and other medical equipment specific to renal oncology patients
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and ensure proper labeling and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding their care, treatment plans, and hospital procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) documentation for all patient interactions and observations
  • Support patients emotionally and provide compassionate care during challenging treatment phases
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests while prioritizing care based on clinical need
  • Adhere to all infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and unit-based quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

  • Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Michigan
  • Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in a medical/surgical setting
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical documentation
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration, dosage calculations, and patient safety protocols
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work night shift schedules and adapt to rotating schedules as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention
  • Physical ability to perform nursing duties, including standing for extended periods and assisting patients with mobility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with oncology or renal patient populations
  • Knowledge of renal dialysis procedures and renal disease management
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) or willingness to pursue certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Experience with specialized cancer care protocols and symptom management
  • Familiarity with pain management and palliative care principles
