Program: Visiting Nursing
Number of Hours Bi-Weekly: 52.5
Work Schedule: Days, with an evening and weekend rotation

On Call: No

Job Summary:

Nurses will provide professional nursing consultation services on a wide variety of nursing issues in a corrections facility.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide and manage high quality, appropriate, and cost-effective nursing care to all individuals and/or families who are assigned to their care.
  2. Responsible for teaching and delegating tasks and functions to different levels of workers, family members, and others in accordance with the standards and scope of practice as determined by VON and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia.
  3. Comply with all standards, policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
  4. Participate as a member of the healthcare team in relevant committees and working groups.
Qualifications:
  1. Registration with NSCN and graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Experience in mental health and addictions is considered an asset.
  4. Emergency room experience is an asset.
  5. Proficiency in using software for client documentation, word processing, and communication.
  6. Self-directed with the ability to work independently.
  7. High attention to detail, with effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  8. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple activities.
  9. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  10. A valid NS driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  11. Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas.
  12. A current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required upon employment start.
  13. A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  14. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
