Job summary

Quality Correctional Care (QCC) seeks licensed practical nurses to join our team at Johnson County Jail. Nurses will administer medications, perform intakes, respond to sick calls, and manage chronic care in a correctional setting. The role requires standing for extended periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Shift openings are 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM with PRN weekends and opportunities to pick up additional shifts. Competitive compensation, PTO, and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications to patients.
• Perform medical intakes and assess fitness for incarceration.
• Respond to sick calls and follow up with medical provider.
• Change medical dressings as required.
• Perform 14-day physicals and manage chronic care.
• Provide patient education on health concerns.
• Respond to medical emergencies and take charge in an emergency.

Nursing Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients by providing the following:
  • Administer medications
  • Perform medical intakes and assess if patient is fit for incarceration, as needed
  • Respond to sick call requests and follow up with the medical provider when needed
  • Check and/or change medical dressings as required by the medical provider
  • Performing 14-day physicals
  • Managing chronic care
  • Providing patient education on health concerns
  • Responding to medical emergencies
    • Be capable of performing life saving measures and ability to take charge and give direction in an emergency.
  • Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including but not limited to drug reaction/overdose, formulary/non-formulary medications, and knowledge of medication costs
  • Be able to provide insight and direction to Medically Trained Personnel, as needed.
  • Comply with all current and future state, federal, and local laws and regulations

Location:Johnson County Jail

Shift Opening(s): 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM PRN weekends with opportunity to pick up shifts outside of weekends if desired.

Requirements:

• Valid LPN licensure
• Valid CPR certification
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to push, pull, reach, and bend frequently
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
