Job summary

Quality Correctional Care is seeking a licensed practical nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care at the Johnson County Jail. The role focuses on assessment, medication administration, chronic care management, and emergency response within a correctional setting.

Shifts are 6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM with PRN weekends and potential for additional weekend coverage. Candidates must hold an LPN license and CPR certification to support inmate healthcare needs.

• Valid LPN licensure to practice in the state.
• CPR certification required for emergencies.
• Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients in a correctional setting.
• Administer medications and conduct 14-day physicals as needed.
• Respond to sick calls and consult with medical providers when necessary.
• Maintain pharmacology knowledge and assist Medically Trained Personnel.
• Comply with state, federal, and local regulations.

Nursing Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, and deliver comprehensive healthcare to patients by providing the following:
  • Administer medications
  • Perform medical intakes and assess if patient is fit for incarceration, as needed
  • Respond to sick call requests and follow up with the medical provider when needed
  • Check and/or change medical dressings as required by the medical provider
  • Performing 14-day physicals
  • Managing chronic care
  • Providing patient education on health concerns
  • Responding to medical emergencies
    • Be capable of performing life saving measures and ability to take charge and give direction in an emergency.
  • Maintain working knowledge of pharmacology, including but not limited to drug reaction/overdose, formulary/non-formulary medications, and knowledge of medication costs
  • Be able to provide insight and direction to Medically Trained Personnel, as needed.
  • Comply with all current and future state, federal, and local laws and regulations

Shift Opening(s):

6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM PRN weekends with opportunity to pick up shifts outside of weekends if desired.

Requirements:

• Valid LPN licensure
• Valid CPR certification
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• Must be able to push, pull, reach, and bend frequently
• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
