Position Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient primary care practice under the supervision of a licensed provider and the RN Supervisor. This position plays a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient patient care while supporting providers through all phases of the patient visit.

The LPN assists with clinical procedures, medication administration, patient education, immunizations, laboratory services, care coordination, and documentation while serving as a clinical resource for Medical Assistants. This position requires excellent clinical judgment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to exceptional patient experiences.

Essential Functions

Clinical Patient Care

• Room patients and obtain comprehensive vital signs and clinical histories.
• Perform medication reconciliation and allergy verification.
• Prepare patients for examination and procedures.
• Administer medications, injections, and immunizations within scope of practice.
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
• Perform EKGs, spirometry, and other clinical procedures.
• Assist providers with office procedures.
• Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
• Monitor patients during and after procedures.

Clinical Coordination

• Coordinate patient care with providers, nurses, and Medical Assistants.
• Review daily schedules to ensure appropriate preparation for appointments.
• Assist with medication refills according to provider protocols.
• Coordinate laboratory follow-up and patient communication.
• Assist with referrals and prior authorizations as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within AthenaOne.

Clinical Leadership

• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for Medical Assistants.
• Reinforce clinic policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Promote compliance with infection prevention, OSHA, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new clinical staff.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and workflow development.

Clinic Operations

• Maintain exam room readiness and clinical supplies.
• Monitor vaccine inventory and medication storage.
• Ensure equipment is cleaned, calibrated, and functioning properly.
• Assist with opening and closing clinical operations.
• Participate in daily huddles and team meetings.

Required Qualifications

• Current Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
• Current BLS certification.
• Minimum two years of outpatient clinical experience.
• Experience in primary care, family medicine, or internal medicine.
• Experience administering injections and immunizations.
• Excellent patient assessment and communication skills.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Availability to work a shift scheduled between 8AM and 7PM Monday through Friday with occasional short weekend shifts.

Strongly Preferred

• Three or more years of outpatient primary care experience.
• Experience with AthenaOne.
• Experience in HIV medicine, sexual health, or community health.
• Fluent in Spanish (required).
• Portuguese language skills strongly preferred.
• Experience mentoring clinical staff.
