Job summary

AHRC New York City is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses to join our Jamaica, Queens residence, supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will monitor health, administer medications, supervise direct support staff, and document medical information for RN review.

Qualifications

  • Current NYS Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure required.
  • CPR certification (AHA or equivalent).
  • Experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work as part of a team.
  • Valid NYS Driver's license highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate with direct support staff in ADLs and hygiene tasks.
  • Oversee mealtime and feeding protocols to ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Perform medication administration as per procedure outline.
  • Report and oversee infection control practices as outlined per plans.
  • Ensure basic First Aid supplies are available for safety.
  • Document medical findings for RN review and inclusion in the plan of nursing services.
  • Notify RN Supervisor immediately of significant medical deviations.
  • Communicate concerns to medical providers and RN Supervisor.
  • Maintain communication with families about pertinent medical concerns.
  • Provide post-operative, routine, or preventive medical treatments per orders.
  • Obtain baseline and monitor vital signs and weights.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Utilize medical charting as required.
  • Attend scheduled medical appointments as requested by RN Supervisor.
  • Follow emergency notification procedures for safety.
  • Provide coverage according to staffing plans.
  • Complete all required trainings.

Job Description

AHRC NYC is looking for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to fill one to four days at their Queens ICF residence. The LPN will monitor health and safety needs of people supported living in our residences to promote wellness.

Location: Jamaica, Queens

Available shifts: 7pm-7am....Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Pay Rate: $35-$36.50 per hour.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and participate with the direct support staff tasks related to personal hygiene, Activities of Daily Living, incontinence care, and environmental cleanliness, ensuring these tasks are properly performed.
  • Supervise and participate with the direct support staff in mealtime and feeding protocols, to assure adherence to recommended nutritional and medical guidelines.
  • Perform medication administration as per procedure outline.
  • Report and oversee infection control practices as outlined per agency and per program- specific exposure control plans.
  • Oversee and ensure adequate basic First Aid supplies are available as necessary for the safety of people supported, per departmental guidelines.
  • Report and document medical findings for RN review and for inclusion to a persons plan of nursing services.
  • Reporting immediately any significant deviations in the medical status of a person supported to RN Supervisor.
  • Communicate, report and document the issues and concerns of the person supported to primary medical provider and RN Supervisor.
  • Communicate with families and maintain family contacts to inform and discuss pertinent medical concerns of people supported.
  • Provide post-operative, routine or preventative medical treatments and interventions as per MD or RN order (i.e., G-tube feedings, wound and skin care, urinary drainage systems maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, passive and active range of motion therapy).
  • Obtain baseline and monitor medical information (Vital Sign Monitoring, Weights).
  • Ensure ongoing compliance and quality assurance with Federal and State regulations pertinent to the operation of the residence.
  • Utilize appropriate and expected medical charting skills.
  • Attend medical appointments as requested by RN Supervisor as individual LPN scheduling permits.
  • Observe and follow through on established emergency notification procedures in a manner which will ensure the safety and welfare of all people supported.
  • Provide coverage in accordance with established staffing schedules.
  • Attend and successfully complete all necessary training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current NYS Licensed Practical Nurse Licensure required.
  • AHA or equivalent CPR certification.
  • Experience with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work as member of a team.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, people supported, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
  • Must have the ability to implement the programs goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Residential Nursing Services Department.
  • Must maintain the oversight of care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of the site.
  • Valid NYS Drivers license highly preferred.
