The Licensed Practical Nurse's primary role is to provide nursing care for patients with common, well-defined health problems. The LPN works as part of a multidisciplinary team, using the nursing process to implement patient care under supervision of a registered nurse, making safe and appropriate decisions within the scope of practice, in accordance with regulations, policies, and standards.

Essential Functions:

  1. Deliver quality nursing care by collecting data, identifying deviations, and assisting with reassessment under RN supervision.
  2. Document findings thoroughly, communicate assessment data effectively, and identify expected outcomes.
  3. Implement care plans, perform procedures, and treatments as prescribed.
  4. Conduct bedside tests, wound care, and assist with ADLs.
  5. Support patients' coping and adaptation to illness and stressors.
  6. Provide age-appropriate, culturally sensitive communication and interventions, documenting needs.
  7. Administer medications safely, assess patients pre- and post-administration, and educate patients.
  8. Follow up on care responsibilities, communicate needs, and transcribe orders accurately.
  9. Utilize nursing resources and knowledge to meet facility, patient, and staff needs, promoting evidence-based practices.
  10. Guide and educate new staff as a preceptor; perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Current, valid license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment; Compact licenses accepted.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of inpatient hospital experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments, communicate effectively, and serve diverse populations.
  • Must complete CPR and behavioral health de-escalation training.

This role involves working in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment, with exposure to odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behaviors. Work is primarily indoors, with temperature variations possible.
