Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Corrections

Pay: $25 to $33 depending on location

Job Summary:

The LPN in Corrections provides direct nursing care to inmates in a correctional facility, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a physician. This position is responsible for assessing inmate health needs, administering medications, and maintaining health records, all while ensuring compliance with security protocols and facility policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Direct Patient Care: Provide nursing care to inmates, including administering medications, performing routine health assessments, and monitoring chronic conditions.
• Health Assessments: Conduct health screenings and assist in the identification and management of medical problems such as injuries, illnesses, and infections.
• Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document all medication administration in patient records.
• Inmate Education: Educate inmates on healthcare topics, including medication management, hygiene, and wellness.
• Emergency Care: Provide basic emergency care and assist in stabilization efforts in critical situations until further medical assistance arrives.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient health records and communicate significant changes in inmate health to appropriate personnel.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, RNs, and mental health professionals, to ensure comprehensive care for inmates.
• Security Awareness: Follow security protocols to ensure the safety and security of both inmates and staff while providing care.
• Inmate Supervision: Ensure that proper supervision is maintained during medical treatment, especially in high-security areas.
• Compliance: Adhere to all healthcare regulations and facility policies, including maintaining confidentiality and complying with correctional facility rules.
  
  
  

Qualifications:

• Education/Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited LPN/LVN program.
• Current and valid LPN license in the state of employment.
• Previous nursing experience in a correctional setting is preferred, but not required.
• Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of nursing practices, medical terminology, and correctional health care procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in handling sensitive or potentially volatile situations.
• Ability to work in a high-pressure, high-security environment.
• Basic knowledge of emergency medical protocols and first aid.
• Certifications:
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
