FT/PT: Casual - up to 1,200 hrs/year

Purpose of Classification
The purpose of positions in this classification is to perform licensed practical nursing service care and treatment to Edgewater Haven residents according to physicians orders and established nursing practices, rules and regulations. The work is performed under the direction of the supervising Registered Nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1.Sets up, administers, monitors and charts oral, intramuscular and other medications and treatments.
2.Observes residents for changes in physical and/or emotional condition and informs supervising Registered Nurse. Charts observations. Notifies families and medical doctor when condition changes.
3.Performs/takes and charts residents’ blood pressure, temperature, blood sugar, pulse and respiration.
4.Converses with patients to assure they are comfortable, explains therapies, treatments, medications and changes in same. Answers resident’s request for assistance.
5.Answers questions from family members
6.Reassures and provides emotional support to residents.
7.Takes and records physician’s telephone medical orders.
8.Charts nutritional intake, bowel movements, fluid intake/output, and other resident activities such as leaving the facility.
9.Reports needs or changes to other facility departments such as maintenance, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, physical therapy, occupation therapy, pharmacy and beautician.
10.Assists maintaining supplies and medication inventories.
11.Maintains knowledge of nursing principles, methods and standards; and health care, sanitation, hygiene and medical treatment.
12.Attends care conferences, in-service training, and staff and facility meetings.
13.May direct and assist aides. Teaches new procedures.
14.Directs visitors.
15.Monitors alarm system for wandering residents. Redirects wandering residents.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this classification and may also be performed by other unit members.

1.Acts on resident’s requests such as adjusting air conditioning, radiators, blinds, fans, TV/radio, windows etc.
2.Assists in dining room.
3.Adjusts, positions and transfers residents. Assists to provide activities of daily living (ADL’s) to residents.
4.Pushes wheel chairs.
5.Calls in replacement staff to cover shortages.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Vocational degree in Practical Nursing, prior practical nursing experience preferably in an institutional setting, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Wisconsin Licensed Practical Nurse required. Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required and must be maintained during employment with Wood County.
