LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) – Behavioral Health – FULL TIME – Dayshift

Job Duties

Prepares patients for provider visits according to approved policies and procedures (e.g., reason for visit, history, symptoms, weight, height, vital signs, medications, allergies).

Administers medications/vaccinations to patients as regulated by the Nurse Practice Acts and as ordered by the provider.

Reviews and updates medication lists identifying any possible ineffective drug therapies, adverse reactions, side effects, drug allergies and contraindicated medications.

Assists physicians with procedures as requested.

Notifies patients of lab and test results.

Collects specimens as directed and performs limited lab tests on site as ordered by the provider.

Maintains equipment and controls, including refrigerator temperatures if applicable.

Responsible for patient and equipment safety.

Communicates and interacts effectively with patients and families, physicians, peers and other health team members to maximize successful patient outcomes. Provides patient education.

Assists in the facilitation of smooth patient flow.

Greets patients and families courteously.

Maintains good communication with providers and coworkers.

Ensures adequate amounts of medical supplies and medications are available and stocked appropriately.

Sterilizes instruments and instrument packs if applicable.

Maintains inventory of drug samples and rotates stock to use the oldest first; checks expiration dates monthly.

Receives prescription refill calls and forwards them to the pharmacy under a provider’s direct supervision, documenting them in the patient record by the end of the business day.

Assures nursing documentation in the medical records is complete, including lot numbers for vaccines and samples.

Performs administrative duties as requested, including appointment scheduling, telephone etiquette, mail handling, obtaining authorizations, and collecting co-payments.

Maintains exam rooms and workstations, ensuring cleanliness.

Maintains organized flow of nursing information and documentation, keeping documents accessible when needed.

Triage patient clinical calls.

Schedules tests or procedures for patients as appropriate.

Performs pacemaker and defibrillator checks where applicable.

Uses appropriate infection control measures, including PPE and hand washing.

Maintains medical information filing and scanning.

Utilizes Meditech, Medisoft, and Medisoft Clinical EMR.

Follows appropriate chain of command for reporting grievances, complaints, and staff issues.

Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Strength: Medium work – lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 20–50 lbs occasionally; 10–25 lbs frequently; up to 10 lbs constantly.

Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

Graduate of a diploma school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nurse Examiners.

Licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Pennsylvania.

Great attention to detail.

Efficient computer typing and use of computers.

Strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation; ability to prioritize activities, organize work, and problem-solve.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate with the public sector by telephone and in person; ability to handle anxious and angry individuals.

Ability to communicate with administrative staff, managers, attorneys, physicians, and all hospital staff with respect and tact.

Working Conditions

Work setting will be an office with frequent bending, stooping, lifting, twisting, and maneuvering for patient evaluations.

Possible exposure to chemicals related to equipment and clinical/medical procedures.

Uses computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, telephone, and paper shredders.

Independent judgment and initiative required.

Toward representing MMC with tact and poise.

Work with minimal direction and frequent interruptions; multitasking needed.

Must work first shift; additional hours may be required on short notice.

Manage multiple priorities under stress; flexibility to adapt to changing situations professionally.
