Job summary

Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital in Western Massachusetts is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our inpatient team. In a 150-bed unit, you will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, perform safety checks, administer medications, and participate in care planning.

Schedule is 3x12 days (7a-7p) with rotating weekends. Applicants must hold MA LPN license, CPR, and ideally CPI or Handle With Care; prior behavioral health, detox, or med/surg experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Current LPN license in Massachusetts required.
• Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program.
• CPR certification required upon hire.
• CPI or Handle With Care preferred or obtained within 30 days.
• Behavioral health, psychiatric, detox, or med/surg experience preferred.
• Trauma-informed care familiarity encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Conduct patient observations and safety checks.
• Administer medications safely and according to protocol.
• Transcribe and carry out physician orders accurately.
• Document patient status, response to interventions, and progress toward goals.
• Assist with psychiatric emergencies and crisis stabilization.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans and care expectations.
• Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity, rights, and confidentiality.
• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning.
• Support detox monitoring protocols as applicable.
• Promote a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused environment.

How you'll contribute

What we're looking for

• Applicants should have a current LPN license in the state of Massachusetts and graduate from an accredited practical nursing program. Additional requirements include:
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required upon hire
• CPI or Handle With Care certification preferred or obtained within 30 days
• Behavioral Health, Psychiatric, Detox, or Med/Surg experience preferred
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care practices preferred
• Strong communication and de‑escalation skills
• Ability to remain calm and compassionate in high‑pressure situations
• Commitment to patient‑centered care
