Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises nursing assistants to ensure high‑quality care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role includes planning and overseeing daily nursing activities, administering medications, completing required documentation, maintaining patient confidentiality, performing catheterization, wound care, and IV care, and fostering a warm and collaborative environment. The LPN coordinates with physicians, ensures safety protocols, and maintains effective communication with residents, families, and staff to meet residents' needs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all functions under your active license as it pertains to your assigned duties.
  • Know the residents you serve and provide care based on their care plans and physician orders.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel and other departments to ensure nursing services and activities are adequately maintained and residents’ needs are met.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis in a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Receive and give the nursing record upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours; make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Assist in all aspects of a resident’s daily life, including activities of daily living, meal service, and social engagement.
  • Appropriately communicate with clinical leadership when a resident’s needs change.
  • Provide care for residents with dementia.
  • Be willing to take on other duties and assignments within the scope of your knowledge and experience.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current unencumbered state license.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines for long‑term care facilities.
  • Experience in long‑term care preferred.
  • Willing to take additional training or education as required by specific states.
  • CPR and first aid certifications required.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable while handling multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent in organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Physical Demands
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the workday; lift or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • May include health requirements such as a medical and physical examination.
  • May be required to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
