Job description

Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises nursing assistants to ensure high‑quality care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The LPN plans and oversees daily nursing activities, administers medications, completes required documentation, and maintains patient confidentiality. The role also includes catheterization, wound care, IV care, and fostering a collaborative environment while coordinating with physicians and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all functions permitted by your active license as related to assigned duties.
  • Know the residents you serve, providing care based on their care plans and physician orders.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel and other departments to ensure nursing services are adequately maintained.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
  • Receive and give nursing reports upon shift change.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Assist in all aspects of a resident’s daily life, including activities of daily living, meal service, and social engagement.
  • Communicate changes in a resident’s needs to clinical leadership appropriately.
  • Care for residents with dementia using appropriate techniques.
  • Be willing to take on other duties and assignments within the scope of your knowledge and experience.

Qualifications
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current, unencumbered state license.
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing health care facilities.
  • Experience in long‑term care is preferred.
  • Willing to undertake additional training or education required by specific states.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable while handling multiple priorities.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent in organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Physical Demands
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the workday; lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • May be required to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication.
  • Must tolerate moderate noise level of the work environment.
