Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) is hiring for a licensed practical nurse at the Otero County Processing Facility in Chaparral, NM. The role involves supervising health services staff, assessing detainees, and administering medications in a secure environment.

Full-time positions offer a rotating 3x12 schedule with night shift differential. A $2,500 sign-on bonus accompanies the hourly rate of $28.54.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• Current, valid practical nursing license for NM or compact state; CPR certification.
• Valid NM or TX driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Assess detainee condition under supervision and prescribe treatment per protocol.
• Prepare examining room and equipment; assist with provider line.
• Administer medications and document; operate pill cart as needed.
• Control meds and supplies; ensure security of controlled substances.
• Perform emergency procedures and contact physician for orders.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant medical records and confidentiality.
• Monitor for catastrophic illnesses and on-call responsibilities.
• Prepare records, reports, and logs; conduct chart reviews.
• Rescue operations during emergencies and disasters as required.

Essential Responsibilities

• Under the direction of health services administrator, supervising nurse and professional service providers and in accordance with approved treatment protocol, assess condition of and prescribe treatment for detainees reporting to sick call.
• Assist with provider line; prepare examining room and equipment.
• Operate pill call, administer medication and document as required. This may include pushing and/or wheeling a pill cart on facility campus.
• Control medication, syringes and other medical supplies or equipment as required.
• Perform emergency procedures as needed and call the physician for treatment orders.
• Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Observe applicable HIPAA rules.
• Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
• Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
• Perform work on an on-call basis, as required.
• Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary and operational records, reports, and logs.
• Conduct chart review; review status of detainees with serious health problems for completion of all necessary intervention and treatment.
• Perform rescue functions for accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.

Education And Experience Requirements

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program, current, valid practical nursing license for the state of New Mexico or compact state. Must possess current CPR certification. Valid driver’s license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
