Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse Department: General Surgery (2800) Location: Rochester General Hospital Hours Per Week: Per Diem Schedule: Night

SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care, usually under the direction of a Registered Nurse, in accordance with established plans. The Licensed Practical Nurse is a key member of the care delivery team. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates the needs of the patient and the team; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, takes direction from the RN and delegates appropriately to the other members of the team. The General Surgical Unit (2800) cares for pre and post-surgical patients including general, colorectal, plastics and breast, bariatrics, urology, ENT and neurosurgery. This fast-paced unit is a great fit for experienced and new RNs who enjoy multidisciplinary teamwork and rewarding patient interactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Care & Service - Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; perform various treatment procedures; provide physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervise assigned team members.
  • Medication Administration & Reporting - Administer medication and give/receive relevant reports, both written and verbal from/to appropriate staff as per departmental protocols.
  • Documentation - Ensure concise, pertinent and complete documentation using computerized medical record process.
  • Preparation - Ensure clinical areas are properly supplied and exam rooms are available and stocked.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Practical Nursing or equivalent required. Current licensure in State of New York as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills highly desired. At least 6 months LPN experience preferred.
EDUCATION

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - NYS Office of Professions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements. For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements. Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.

PAY RANGE

PAY RANGE: $27.54 - $33.66 CITY: Rochester POSTAL CODE: 14621 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
