Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 3 South Medical/Telemetry unit. You will provide direct nursing care under RN supervision, assess patients, and contribute to the care plan in a high-acuity setting.

You will administer medications, document care, and maintain patient safety while supporting interdisciplinary collaboration and cost-conscious operations. Relocation assistance available.

Summary

Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse

Major Job Functions

• Participates in assessment of patient
• Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care
• Follows patient’s plan of care while participating in the direct nursing care to assigned patients
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s)
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
• Administers medication as ordered by physician
• Facilitates a safe environment
• Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately
• Maintains required competencies
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care
• Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen
• Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services
• Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP), if applicable
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training :

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure

Unit Description:

• 3 South is a 36 Bed Unit consisting of an all-adult patient unit, working on a track schedule.
• Patient Ratio 1:5.
• Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistant’s, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists.
• New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!

Work Experience:

• 1 – 2 years of related clinical experience preferred
• Pneumonia, Congested heart Failure, Renal failure, Sepsis, Stroke, Seizures, Respiratory illness
• CPAP, BIPAP and Telemetry required
• PCA Pumps

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
• Verbal and written skills required
• Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of the patients typically served

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
• Visual acuity for observation of patients
• Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
