The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) partners with people and communities to support Ohioans with developmental disabilities and their families.

Responsibilities

As a Licensed Practical Nurse at NODC, you will perform nursing procedures under the direction of a Psychiatric/MR Nurse: transcribe physician’s orders; administer controlled (e.g., narcotics, minor tranquilizers) and non‑controlled medications (e.g., aspirin) in oral, rectal, topical or injection form; administer physician‑ordered treatments such as oxygen, sterile dressings, catheters, gastrostomy tube reinsertion, suctioning, specimen collection; monitor residents for medication reactions and report negative reactions immediately and document incidents; assist physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests; address medical emergencies including first aid and CPR; respond to other emergencies (e.g., restraints, Heimlich maneuver, evacuation during fire); chart resident records; prepare and count medication; order medication and supplies; provide medication instructions to residents and staff; implement Nursing Care Plans; maintain medical records and perform clerical tasks; attend meetings and trainings; mentor nursing students; participate in quality assurance and environment monitoring; and perform related duties such as attendance at in‑services, workshops, seminars, and committees.

Qualifications

License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing and proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration. Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess certification in IV Therapy.

Supplemental Information

May be exposed to unpredictable resident behavior and contagious diseases.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment and will be barred from employment with the State of Ohio for one year.
