Licensed Practical Nurse - Cardiothoracic ICU - Nights

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Acute Care is responsible for delivering patient care in an acute hospital setting, utilizing the nursing process under supervision of a registered nurse and physician's orders. This role requires population-specific competencies and adherence to National Patient Safety Goals based on patient contact level.

Qualifications
  • Current licensure as an LPN in Oklahoma or a multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) member state.
  • Preferred: LPN experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Current BLS certification upon hire or within 30 days.
  • Current IV Therapy certification upon hire or within 30 days.
  • ACLS certification as required by department.
  • Effective communication skills in English (Verbal/Written).
  • Department-specific competencies will be completed during orientation.
Responsibilities

The LPN responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing and reassessing patients.
  • Assisting in developing and implementing care plans under RN supervision.
  • Participating in patient care interventions and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Monitoring lab values and patient assessments for abnormalities.
  • Reporting patient status changes to physicians and initiating orders as directed.
  • Providing patient and caregiver education to promote wellness.
  • Collaborating with the care team to ensure quality and safety initiatives.
  • Ensuring patient satisfaction and confidentiality.
  • Potentially floating to other units and participating in on-call duties.

Reports to the department director or clinical supervisor.

This role may include additional physical demands, respiratory fit testing, and exposure to communicable diseases, blood, body fluids, and chemicals. Please consult the Physical Demands site or Risk Management for details. INTEGRIS Mental Health staff must assist with patient restraint using Behavior Management Techniques. Exposures include infections, blood, body fluids, and electrical equipment. Standard precautions are mandatory.
