Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to support endoscopy procedures and patient care before and after colorectal surgery in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

You will collaborate with RNs and providers, document care, and contribute to quality improvement while maintaining strong communication within a multidisciplinary team. Part-time schedule with 40 hours per pay period, shifts 7:30-4:00 or 8:00-4:30, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a school of practical nursing.
• Current LPN license with valid certifications as required by the work area.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work in a team.

This licensed practical nurse (LPN) will work with patients experiencing un-sedated endoscopy procedures ( flexib le sigmoidoscop y and high resolution anoscopy) , minor procedures, or p rovider visits before and after colorectal surgery.

The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects.

Qualifications

Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Colorectal or surgical experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.

Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

License And Certification (Must Obtain Prior To Start Date)

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).

Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
