Summary

The James J. Peters VHA Medical Center is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses for all services. This is an open continuous announcement until July 7, 2025. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies arise. Positions are available across all specialties at James J. Peters VA Medical Center.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
• Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as an LPN or LVN in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
• Education: Graduate of an approved practical or vocational nursing program, accredited by the NLNAC at the time of completion.
• Exceptions: Refer to VA qualification standards and the Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
• Grade Determinations: GS-3: Basic requirements. GS-4: Six months of qualifying experience or graduation plus experience. GS-5: One year of experience at GS-4 or equivalent, with demonstrated full-range nursing care skills. GS-6: One additional year of experience at GS-5 level, with proficiency in patient care and emergency response.

Duties

• Provide patient care including medication administration, patient education, and support during diagnostic procedures.
• Recognize and respond to urgent or emergent patient care situations, seeking assistance as needed.
• Assist in complex diagnostic tests and procedures, and serve as a preceptor for less experienced staff.
• Maintain documentation and ensure safety standards are met.
