Job summary

Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join a clinical team providing compassionate, patient-centered care for geriatric and adolescent patients in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting. Nurses will work on 12-hour shifts on a 2/3 block schedule, under supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities include administering medications, monitoring patients, and collaborating with the treatment team to ensure safety and a therapeutic environment.

Qualifications

• Certification from approved Practical Nursing Program.
• Licensed as an LPN to practice in Louisiana.
• One-year LPN experience preferred; behavioral health and geriatrics strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatments.
• Monitor physical and mental status; document progress.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and ensure safety.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to promote recovery and quality care.
• Provide therapeutic communication and crisis intervention as needed.

We are currently seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join our clinical team, working a 2/3 block schedule and 12-hour shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Freedom Behavioral Lake Charles provides compassionate, patient-centered nursing care to geriatric and adolescent patients receiving acute inpatient behavioral health treatment. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the LPN helps maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while supporting each patient's physical, emotional, and psychiatric needs.

Geriatric Patient Population

LPNs assigned to the Geriatric Unit provide nursing care to older adults with acute psychiatric disorders, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, depression, anxiety, and other behavioral health conditions. Responsibilities include administering medications and treatments, monitoring physical and mental status, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), implementing fall prevention and safety measures, documenting patient progress, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote recovery and quality of life.

Adolescent Patient Population

LPNs assigned to the Adolescent Unit provide nursing care to adolescents experiencing acute behavioral health and psychiatric disorders. Responsibilities include administering medications and treatments, monitoring emotional and behavioral status, supporting therapeutic interventions, maintaining a safe and structured environment, assisting with crisis intervention, documenting patient progress, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote stabilization, healthy coping skills, and recovery.

Regardless of assignment, the LPN is responsible for observing patient behaviors, reporting changes in condition, providing therapeutic communication, ensuring patient safety, and delivering high-quality behavioral healthcare with compassion, professionalism, and respect.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Education: Certification from approved Practical Nursing Program
• License: Licensed as an LPN to practice in the State of Louisiana.
• Experience: One-year LPN experience is preferred. Previous experience with behavioral health and geriatrics is strongly preferred.
