Job summary

Job description

Description

Hampton University is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to providein-person and telehealth medical care to students at the HealthCenter. The LPN must be willing to work collaboratively andsuccessfully with the health team to provide comprehensive andage-appropriate care to well and ill patients. The LPN works underthe supervision of the RN but reports to the Director ofOperations.

Scheduled hours: Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM-6:00 PM / Friday 8:00AM-5:00 PM

Must be willing to work extended hours and on-call asindicated.

Responsibilities
  • Customer Service Skills: Receives all patients and visitorspleasantly and efficiently, serving as the first point of contactat the Health Center front desk.
  • Provides outpatient primary care services for episodic illnesses,health maintenance and wellness screenings.
  • Follows appropriate care/treatment plans as ordered by theprovider.
  • Consistently develops effective care/treatment plan for assignedpatients according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Documents patient’s medical information and maintains electronicmedical records.
  • Schedules consultation or referral appointments with other healthcare providers.
  • Dispenses medications as ordered by the provider.
  • Provides information to provider regarding patient’s care planand condition.
  • Regularly confers and consults with appropriate supervisor asindicated.
  • Educates, instructs, and counsels patients on presenting healthproblems, treatment plans, and home care, and encourages andpromotes preventative health care and positive health behaviors asinstructed by the provider.
  • Must be willing to cross-train in Health Center tasks asindicated.
  • Must be on stand-by for doctors and nurse practitioners.
  • Must be willing to care for patients that test positive forCOVID.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

  • Ability to triage mental health issues and work closely withcolleagues in the Student Counseling Center.
  • Ability to multitask, triage health problems, and respondeffectively to medical emergencies.

  • Exceptional active listening skills.
  • Must have data entry skills.
  • Must be willing to receive training and learn the MediCatelectronic health records software.
Supplemental Information
  • Must have Practical Nursing Diploma from an accredited nursingschool.
  • Must have a current license to practice as an LPN in theCommonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) and CardiopulmonaryResuscitation (CPR) Certifications.
  • Must have 2-4 years of clinical work experience.
