Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide ambulatory care under orders from licensed practitioners and guidance from the RN in charge.

Responsibilities include administering medications, immunizations, vital signs, documentation in the EMR, and supervising certified nursing assistants on-site in Charlottesville, VA. Virginia licensure and BLS certification are required; on-site work only.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
• No prior experience required.
• Virginia LPN license prior to onboarding and AHA BLS certification.
• May require a Virginia driver's license (VADL).

Responsibilities

• Administer nursing care to ambulatory patients per nursing standards.
• Assist with examinations, patient teaching, and home care.
• Administer immunizations and oral/injectable meds.
• Measure and record vital signs (height, weight, temp, BP, pulse, respiration).
• Document and report patient information in the EMR clearly.
• Evaluate patient responses to treatments and procedures.
• Lead certified nursing assistants.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are responsible for carrying outpatient care in accordance with licensed independent practitioner's orders, under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse in charge. They administer ordered medications and treatments, observe and record effects of medications, and observe and report patient reactions to treatments or any unusual conditions. Work is largely routine and done according to established protocols, with some supervision.

Responsibilities include

• Administer nursing care to patients requiring care in an ambulatory setting based on nursing practice standards.
• Assist with medical examinations, patient teaching, and home care.
• Administer immunizations, oral, and injectable medications.
• Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
• Document and report patient information clearly and concisely via electronic medical record.
• Evaluate each patient's response to treatments and procedures.
• Lead certified nursing assistants.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Graduated from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse Program.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia prior to onboarding. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. May require a valid Virginia Driver's License (VADL).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job may require standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The anticipated hiring range is $24 - $32/hour, commensurate with education and experience.
