Responsibilities

As a PTA, you are a vital part of the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function after injury, illness, or surgery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans created by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and needs.
  • Therapeutic Exercises and Activities: Lead patients through prescribed exercises and activities to improve their physical function and aid recovery. Educate patients on proper techniques, monitor progress, and provide feedback for safe and effective participation.
  • Modalities and Physical Agents: Apply treatment modalities correctly, observe patient responses, and adjust treatments as needed for optimal results.
  • Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  • Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses to treatments, document progress, and communicate regularly with the supervising physical therapist to update and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license or certification in the state of practice
