Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatments, provides exercise instruction, and educates patients to improve their well-being, following the established plan of care.

• Adhere to all state-specific laws governing physical therapy in home care, perform only procedures qualified and trained for, and recommend changes to the supervising PT’s plan of care.
• Instruct and assist patients with active/passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, ADLs, transfers, safety, and prosthetic training.
• Observe, document, and report patient responses and condition changes to the supervising PT, nurse, or physician; coordinate care with healthcare team members as appropriate.
• Educate patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare team members within the scope of practice.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current license, registration, or certification to practice physical therapy in the state of practice.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation.

Additional State Requirements

• LA and TX: Must have at least one (1) year of experience as a licensed PTA.
