Responsibilities

As a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), you play a vital role in the rehabilitation team, working under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist to help patients regain movement, reduce pain, and restore function after injury, illness, or surgery. The primary responsibilities include:

  1. Patient Care Implementation: Assist in executing treatment plans developed by the physical therapist to meet patients' rehabilitation goals and needs.
  2. Therapeutic Exercises and Activities: Guide patients through prescribed exercises and activities to improve their physical function and recovery. Instruct on proper techniques, monitor progress, and provide feedback for safety and effectiveness.
  3. Modalities and Physical Agents: Apply treatment modalities correctly, monitor patient responses, and adjust treatments to ensure optimal outcomes.
  4. Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and families on injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and pain management techniques.
  5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Track patient responses, document progress, and communicate with the supervising physical therapist to update and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
  • Current license/certification in the state of practice
