Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatment, provides exercise instruction, and patient education aimed at improving/enhancing the patient's well-being while following the established plan of care.

• Responsible for following all state-specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy in home care, adhering to the treatment plan set by the supervising PT, performing only procedures qualified and trained for, and making recommendations for plan modifications to the supervising PT.
• Instructs and aids patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
• Observes, records, and reports to the supervising PT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and any changes in condition. Coordinates care with the healthcare team as appropriate.
• Instructs patients, family, caregivers, and other healthcare team members within the scope of practice of the physical therapy assistant.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Current license, registration, or certification to assist in physical therapy practice in the state of practice.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.

Additional State Requirements

• LA and TX: Must have at least one (1) year of experience as a licensed PTA.
