Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) is seeking a highly organized and proactive Licensed Optician to join our dynamic Ophthalmology Practice on a full-time basis.
Summary of Duties:
- Responsible for the daily oversight of a busy optical shop, including greeting customers/patients, dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses, repairing eyeglasses, completing billing slips, and performing daily cash close-out and encounter form reconciliation.
- Conduct biannual physical inventory, order supplies, and manage aspects of frame buying for the location.
- Cross coverage across three locations may be required, including intermittent travel to Boston and Pembroke.
Performance Requirements:
- Excellent team player with strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of optical equipment, lenses, frames, and relevant technology.
- Customer service skills, including establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers/patients, physicians, vendors, and healthcare personnel.
- Ability to keep accurate patient records and interpret departmental policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in Excel for daily and monthly reporting.
- Accurate processing of sales transactions following practice policies.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to apply work guidelines effectively.
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree in Opticianry or apprenticeship under a licensed Optician.
- At least three years of optical experience in dispensing and laboratory work.
- MA Opticianry license required.
Example of Duties:
- Repairs, adjusts, and dispenses prescription lenses and frames.
- Measures, fits, and evaluates eyewear based on patient lifestyle, work, and hobbies.
- Inspects eyewear quality and promotes sales.
- Interprets prescriptions and advises patients on eyewear choices.
- Instructs patients on eyewear maintenance.
- Collaborates with ophthalmologists and optometrists as needed.
- Manages inventory and vendor relationships for ophthalmic eyewear and supplies.
- Assists patients with vision plan eligibility and coverage.
- Completes billing and collects payments at dispensing.
- Prepares nightly and monthly financial reports.
- Maintains optical shop’s cleanliness and appearance.
- Conducts inventory every six months and maintains records.
- Adheres to policies, maintains equipment, and participates in professional development and meetings.
- Ensures OSHA standards are met, maintains patient confidentiality, and performs general office duties.
