Position Title : Licensed Mental Health Clinician

Reporting To : Director of Health and Wellness

Job Overview :

We are seeking a full-time licensed clinician to work as part of a multidisciplinary Health and Wellness Team on a thriving, fast-paced college campus. The clinician will primarily see students within the College’s Counseling Center, but also have administrative responsibilities and opportunities to collaborate with other departments on campus. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both collaboratively and independently to provide clinical care to students, engage in consultative and crisis intervention work, and deliver outreach services to the larger campus community. The clinician will work closely with the Director of Health & Wellness in ensuring the provision of high-quality clinical services to students and have the opportunity to provide clinical supervision and training for Master level student interns. The ideal candidate will have general expert knowledge of mental health, along with specific knowledge of trends in college mental health. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with and proficiency in providing evidence-based counseling that is culturally responsive and attuned to the current mental health needs of college students.

Essential Functions :

  • Follow the College’s policies and procedures for the delivery of mental health services and for psychiatric emergencies in accordance with the mission statement and values of the College, as well as applicable laws and statutes.
  • Perform psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of students seen within the College’s Counseling Center, including : conducting mental health evaluations; developing and implementing treatment plans; providing evidence-based short-term counseling; and appropriate referrals to community providers.
  • Conduct outreach to local agencies and community providers to develop and maintain referrals to local providers, agencies, hospitals, and programs to best meet the needs of our students.
  • Develop, implement and engage in regular campus-wide Health and Wellness programming (including administering mental health screeners) to help reduce stigma of help seeking behavior and increase utilization of on campus and off campus supports.
  • Develop and help implement group therapy on a range of mental health topics, including healthy relationships, DBT skills group, social anxiety, and loss and bereavement.
  • Work closely with other departments on campus, especially academics, athletics, and residential life to support students and develop programming and initiatives that best meet the mental health needs of both commuter and residential students.
  • Participate on committees such as The Mental Health Coalition and JED Campus Team to ensure mental health services meet the needs of students.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to assist with retention related efforts to identify students most at risk and in need of support.
  • Assist in campus-wide preventative programming, workshops, and training that elevate mental health awareness and skills for students, staff, and faculty.

Qualifications :

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience required; experience in college mental health preferred.
  • Licensed to practice (, , LCSW, LMFT, etc) in the state of Connecticut.
  • Experience with specialized treatment modalities that are applicable to college students, including : Trauma Informed, Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral skills work.
  • Experience in college mental health and with student athletes preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse, multicultural students.

Education :

  • Doctoral degree in clinical psychology or master's degree in a related field

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Well-organized, able to work under pressure,e and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent presentation skills are necessary to provide mental health awareness presentations, workshops, and outreach to the campus community.
  • High integrity is required while handling confidential information.
  • Able to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community.

Benefits :

Full-time employees are eligible to receive medical, dental, and vision benefits.Full-Time employees can earn between 18-23 paid time off a year. The employer covers tuition remission after 90 days of employment and covers 100 % (employees responsible for books and technology fees). The college is committed to work-life balance and has a summer schedule from June through August. We currently have 14 paid holidays, including a winter break. You will have the opportunity to participate in our retirement plan from day one, and after one year of employment, the college will contribute depending on your service years.
