Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking an experienced Licensed Land Surveyor - Survey/SUE Project Manager. This role plans, directs, and reviews surveying work to determine precise locations, elevations, lines, areas and contours for construction, mapmaking, utilities and SUE projects.

The successful candidate will supervise survey staff, coordinate with engineering, right-of-way and utility teams, prepare data and proposals, and represent JMT in meetings with clients.

Qualifications

  • Professional Registered Land Surveyor in South Carolina.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and local surveying regulations.
  • Valid Driver’s License required; able to pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise surveying staff and act as staff advisor.
  • Coordinate with engineering, right-of-way, and utility teams.
  • Define scope, objectives, and man-hour budgets for projects.
  • Ensure data integrity and prepare survey data, charts, maps.
  • Plan and develop surveying projects with complex problems.
  • Prepare survey proposals and direct proposal teams.
  • Schedule and assign surveying projects within the firm.
  • Train assistants and oversee drafting of maps.
  • Develop criteria for surveying methods.
  • Represent the company in client meetings.
  • Promote safe work practices on site.
  • Maintain liaison with internal and external stakeholders.

Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking an experienced Licensed Land Surveyor - Survey/SUE Project Manager. This position plans, organizes and directs work of other surveyors and technicians engaged in surveying the earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapmaking, utility locations, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), land division, titles, or other purposes. Promotes safe work practices of all survey staff. Evaluates progress of the staff and results obtained and recommends major changes to achieve overall results. Represents the company in meetings and conferences with clients and potential clients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assumes supervisory responsibility and performs as staff advisor and consultant for surveying functions and personnel management
  • Coordinates findings with work of engineering, right-of-way, and/or utility coordination personnel, clients, and others concerned with a project
  • Will determine scope of work, job objectives, and man-hour budgets on projects assigned to the surveying group in concurrence with other project managers and supervisors
  • Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys
  • Makes decisions independently on surveying problems and methods and represents the organization in conferences and meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work
  • Plans and develops surveying projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on firm's major projects
  • Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare survey proposals or to direct others in survey proposal preparation
  • Schedules, assigns and directs projects concerning surveying within the firm
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
  • Train assistants and helpers and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps
  • Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Required Skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must
  • General understanding of survey plan preparation using Bentley MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Valid Driver’s License Required
  • Able to pass Background Check
Required Experience
  • Professional Registered Land Surveyor in South Carolina
  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction surveying regulations

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with subface utility designating and locating preferred
  • Familiarity with SCDOT
  • Familiarity with aerial mapping, LiDAR scanning and sUAS is preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 80% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed. Amount of Travel Required: 20% approximately
