Job summary

County of El Paso is seeking an Investigator to conduct criminal and civil investigations, gather evidence, interview witnesses, and coordinate with local, state, and federal authorities. The role requires a peace officer license and strong report-writing skills.

Responsibilities include court presentations, subpoenas, surveillance, and collaboration with prosecutors and attorneys. On-call duties and ongoing training per TCOLE are expected to ensure high professional standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of experience in criminal/civil investigations.
• Prefer an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Accounting or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Conducts factual investigations; gathers evidence; interviews witnesses; transports complainants and witnesses to and from court; serves subpoenas and arrest warrants.
• Writes investigative reports; prepares evidence for court presentations; obtains police reports and other documentation for trial; attends court proceedings; testifies in court.
• Responds to requests for information via phone or in-person; assists attorneys in preparation for civil and criminal trials; may involve juvenile proceedings.
• Performs surveillance of suspects and defendants; takes photographs of crime scenes; locates witnesses using computer systems and other methods; assists prosecutors and investigators with case requirements.
• Obtains statements from witnesses; documents crime scenes through photographs and diagrams; researches and locates individuals via online resources; maintains confidentiality and customer service standards.
