Qualifications

Job description

Position Summary

The Licensed Dental Assistant I (LDA I) assists the dentist and clinic in direct patient care and performs clinical and clerical functions, including setting up and cleaning the dental unit for timely turnover. The Dental Assistant also provides oral health information to Mary's Center participants and staff, including outreach events.

Reportability

This position reports directly to the Dental Operations Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  1. Preparation and maintenance of dental instruments, supplies, and equipment
  2. Collection and recording of patient health histories to ensure accurate dental records
  3. Patient management during dental procedures
  4. Instrument transfer
  5. Dental procedure isolation techniques
  6. Preparation of dental materials, cements, amalgam, composite, impression materials, etc.
  7. Dental charting
  8. Prevention and management of dental medical emergencies and assistance in oral health management
  9. Inventory control and management
  10. Taking dental x-rays
  11. Applying topical fluoride treatments
  12. Taking impressions and bite registrations
  13. Assisting in maintaining all Oral Health Department areas in compliance with policies and procedures
  14. Receiving and making necessary telephone calls related to professional matters and patient care
  15. Assisting with clinical and administrative functions as appropriate
  16. Proper disposal of contaminated materials following regulations
  17. Full compliance with the center's Exposure Control Plan
  18. Traveling as necessary to meet operational needs
  19. Performing other related tasks as directed by a supervisor
  20. Ensuring personal compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and protocols
  21. Assisting in the electronic transfer of data from paper to digital formats
  22. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

The following are the minimum requirements:

  • Current CPR (BLS) certification, DANB certification, and x-ray licensure
  • Licensed or in the process of licensure in DC and/or Maryland
Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit; frequently reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear; able to lift objects up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

Primarily in a dental setting with moderate to loud noise levels.
