Job description

HVAC Refrigeration Technician Job Responsibilities

HVAC Certified Technician /Registered Technician Job Purpose: Provide HVAC Services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available at job site.

HVAC Technician Job Duties:

  1. Coordinate with assigned foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  2. Diagnose causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or system repair and/or replacement needs.
  3. Fabricate equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.
  4. Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  5. Inspect HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance.
  6. Install heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
  7. Maintain vehicle, tools and equipment and system for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions.
  8. Participate in meetings, workshops, training and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  9. Perform routine and preventative maintenance as needed for the purposes of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems.
  10. Prepare written materials (e.g. repairs status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  11. Repair heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment.
  12. Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
  13. Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  14. Transport a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Skill in using small hand tools such as pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
  2. Skill in using hand-held power tools such as drills, vacuum pump, recovery machine, etc.
  3. Skill in using a variety of motorized equipment such as scissor lift, boom lift, forklift, dollies, etc.
  4. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  5. Ability to work in a team setting.
  6. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  7. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  8. Ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolds.
  9. Manual dexterity.
  10. Physical stamina and endurance.
  11. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  12. Planning and managing projects.
  13. Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  14. Handling hazardous materials.
  15. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse and educational backgrounds.
  16. Operate within a defined budget.

HVAC Technician Working Conditions:

HVAC Technicians may work outdoors in all types of weather; lift and carry heavy objects; work under exposure to heavy traffic, high noise levels, etc.; may work varied shifts, nights, weekends and holidays; and may work with or be exposed to hazardous materials or chemicals.

Certificates & Licenses:

  1. Current Texas Certified ACR License.
  2. Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate.
  3. Class A or B Commercial Refrigeration/Process Cooling & Heating License.
  4. Minimum 5 years’ experience in Commercial and Industrial.
  5. Successful completion of continued education toward HVAC Trade.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
