Job summary

Tennessee Oncology is seeking a licensed psychologist or clinical social worker to provide psychosocial care for cancer patients and families. The role includes outpatient counseling, psychosocial assessments, crisis management, and collaboration with an oncology team.

The clinician will engage in evidence-based interventions, participate in supervision, and contribute to program development while maintaining HIPAA-compliant records and licensure in Tennessee.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree from an APA accredited psychology program with internship/fellowship; health psychology preferred.
  • Fully licensed as a psychologist or clinical social worker in Tennessee.
  • Experience working with cancer patients is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based outpatient counseling to clients during or after cancer treatment, in person or via telehealth.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and crisis management, including screening for suicidality, abuse, and addiction.
  • Connect clients with appropriate community support services.
  • Develop and aid in implementing new treatment programs.
  • Collaborate with referral sources and physicians to promote multidisciplinary care.
  • Maintain daily documentation for Medicare and other insurers and ensure compliant records.
  • Maintain confidential behavioral health records and secure storage of client information.
  • Participate in monthly peer supervision with the Psycho-oncology team.
  • Represent Tennessee Oncology through community educational presentations.
  • Assist in staff in-service training programs.
  • Maintain licensure and comply with CE requirements and HIPAA.

Services are provided to clients at all stages of the cancer process including diagnosis, treatment, long-term survivorship, and end of life. The clinician works as part of a multidisciplinary team providing consultation, care coordination, and training to physicians, nurses, and staff.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The psychosocial oncology clinician is responsible for:1. Providing evidence-based outpatient counseling to clients during or post-treatment for cancer, both in person and via telehealth.2. Providing psychosocial assessment and crisis management including screening for suicidality, abuse, and addiction.3. Connecting clients with appropriate community support services.4. Developing and aiding in the implementation of new treatment programs.5. Developing collaborative working relationships with referral sources and physicians to promote multidisciplinary care.6. Maintaining daily documentation of professional services to meet all legal, ethical, and reporting requirements for Medicare and other insurance providers.7. Maintaining confidential behavioral health records, responding to requests for records, and ensuring confidential storage of client records.8. Participating in monthly peer supervision with the Psycho-oncology team.9. Representing Tennessee Oncology through community educational presentations at least twice per year.10. Assisting in the identification, development, and provision of staff in-service training programs.11. Maintaining current Tennessee licensure as a licensed psychologist or clinical social worker, meeting all continuing education requirements, functioning within all ethical guidelines, and complying with all state and federal laws including HIPAA.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. Highly skilled and demonstrated ability in clinical assessment and treatment planning.2. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.3. Highly skilled and demonstrated ability in conducting evidence-based counseling interventions.4. Knowledge, comfort, and ability in building rapport and serving clients from a multi-cultural perspective to include race, religion, gender, sexual preference, and a wide range of socio-economic classes.5. Demonstrated skills in consultation and the ability to work as part of an oncology treatment team including knowledge of and comfort with inpatient and outpatient medical environments, and knowledge of current oncology treatments, common medical and psychiatric medications, and physiology of the human body as necessary for the practice of psycho-oncology.6. Solid understanding of HIPAA and ethics in practice, and ability to apply both in complex circumstances.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:1. For psychologists: doctoral degree from an APA accredited psychology training program and completion of an APA-accredited internship and/or fellowship, preferably in health psychology; for clinical social workers: master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work2. Fully licensed as a psychologist or clinical social worker in the state of Tennessee3.
