Job summary

UCSF invites applications for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Microbiology Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. The role includes performing microbiology testing, molecular and serologic assays, quality control, and accurate documentation in the LIS.

The position supports inpatient and outpatient testing across affiliated facilities. A California CLS license is required, along with a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field.
• Possession of a California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health.
• Experience with a clinical laboratory computer system and PC skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills relative to clinical results.
• Able to work independently, under pressure; recognise and resolve problems while maintaining a high level of organization.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing procedures, quality control, and documentation for microbiology cultures, molecular, and serologic testing.
• Receive, accession, and process specimens for microbiological cultures and related tests.
• Interpret smears for microorganisms and conduct antibiotic susceptibility testing as required.
• Document results accurately in the laboratory computer system and communicate findings to the care team.
