Job description

Licensed / Board Certified / Eligible Psychiatrist for LAC+USC Medical Center

Join the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC as a full-time faculty member caring for patients within the Psychiatric Adult Inpatient Services at Augustus F. Hawkins (AFH) Mental Health Center. We seek experienced psychiatrists committed to providing excellent, culturally competent clinical treatment and training to residents and medical students.

This is a full-time clinical faculty position with an academic appointment at USC and clinical service at LAC+USC Medical Center. Compensation is competitive, based on experience, with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement, paid time off, tuition assistance, and professional development opportunities.

Essential Functions:
  1. Collaborate closely with Psych service chiefs.
  2. Provide psychiatric care, supervising residents and medical students, including evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management.
  3. Facilitate referrals and appropriate care dispositions.
  4. Support medication treatment with brief supportive therapy and motivational interviewing.
  5. Cover on-call emergencies, including urgent medication issues.
  6. Complete documentation per policies.
  7. Attend faculty and staff meetings.
  8. Collaborate with other mental health providers and medical specialties.
  9. Participate in evaluations, peer review, quality improvement, and departmental committees.
  10. Teach and supervise psychiatry residents and medical students.
  11. Attend departmental Grand Rounds, Social Justice Forums, and other meetings.
  12. This position is not remote.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • California licensed Physician (or eligible) and board certified or eligible psychiatrist.
  • Experience in medication management, stabilization, and crisis intervention.
  • Multicultural competency with diverse patient populations.
  • Resilient, self-aware, and able to thrive in a demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced practice clinician with strong clinical and psychopharmacological skills.
  • Experience working with diverse and LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and professional growth.
  • Language skills beyond English are a plus.
