Job summary

Maine Drilling & Blasting Inc. is seeking a Licensed Blaster to perform blasting activities under supervision, ensuring safety and compliance while supporting production goals. The role requires state-line explosive transport capability, strong communication, and a valid blasting certificate.

Expect travel and active participation in pre-blast testing and safety meetings. Two-year experience with drills and explosives, Blaster I/II training, and CDL Hazmat endorsement are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree.
  • Minimum of two years experience with drills and explosives.
  • Blaster I training completed; Blaster II training required.
  • Valid Blasting Certificate where required.
  • Good communications skills.
  • CDL with hazmat endorsement and company-qualified driver; able to transport explosives across state lines; good driving record.
  • Out of town/state travel.
  • Pass ATF screenings.
  • Thorough blasting techniques knowledge: design, loading, detonators, grade/elevation readings, site security, explosive identification, pop shooting.
  • Proficient in all areas of drill operations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs blasting activity in accordance with job program to achieve anticipated production.
  • Supports direction of Blasting Supervisor and Project Superintendent; reports results for input and direction.
  • Planned input on blast-related activities to aid supervisor in plans.
  • Identifies blast site problems and resolves with supervisor.
  • Verifies pre-blast inspections have been conducted prior to blasting.
  • Performs pre-blast tests and seismograph setup as needed.
  • Follows all Company safety policies and practices.
  • Places supply and material requests through supervision as needed.
  • Monitors blast pattern relation to digging and reports results.
  • Documents use of explosives and completes inventory paperwork.
  • Transfers explosives across state lines when required.
  • Completes field accounting reports and trip manifest forms.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Attends company meetings and daily safety briefings.

LICENSED BLASTER-

Pay: Salary DOE plus company vehicle.

Performs blasting activity in accordance with job program to achieve anticipated production. This position supports the direction of the Blasting Supervisor and Project Superintendent. Reports blasting results and status to Project Superintendent or Blasting Supervisor for input and direction.

Qualifications

High School Degree

Minimum of two years experience working with drills and explosives

Must have completed Blaster I training and will be required to take Blaster II training

Possess a Valid Blasting Certificate in states that require this

Must have good communications skills

Must hold a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement and is a Company-qualified driver (able to transport explosives across state lines) and has a good driving record as defined by the Company insurance carrier

Out of town/state travel

Must successfully pass ATF screenings

Has a thorough understanding of blasting techniques: blast design, loading holes, select and operate electric and non-electric detonators, demonstrate grade & elevation readings, secure blast site, identify explosives, demonstrate pop shooting

Proficient in all areas of drill operations

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position
  • Ability to lift 50lbs., 30 - 40% of the time
  • Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather environments
  • Stooping and bending 30 – 40% of the time
