The Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist, Outpatient will provide behavioral health assessment, determine safety, provide supportive psychotherapy, and recommend outpatient treatment under the direction of the ambulatory provider. Specifically, the Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist, Outpatient will provide initial psychiatric consultations, crisis management, therapeutic support, and psychotherapy for patients in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings.

Typical Duties

1. Support and coordinate mental health care with the patient's provider and other treating mental health providers when appropriate.
2. Screen and assess patients for common mental health and substance abuse disorders.
3. Monitor patients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms, treatment side effects, or complications.
4. Support psychotropic medication management prescribed by the patient's providers, focusing on treatment adherence, side effects, and effectiveness.
5. Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques such as Behavioral Activation, Problem-Solving Treatment, Motivational Interviewing, or other appropriate treatments for primary care settings.
6. Participate in regular caseload consultations with the Psychiatric Consultant and communicate treatment recommendations to the patient's provider.
7. Mentor staff on clinical cases and professional development.
8. Facilitate treatment plan changes for patients not improving as expected, including medication adjustments, psychosocial treatments, or referrals.
9. Assess information critically and communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and clinical staff.
10. Identify professional goals, engage in staff development, stay current on clinical trends and policies, especially related to crisis and behavioral health acts.
11. Participate actively in team activities within the hospital and community, maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
