Job summary

Geisinger Healthplex Woodbine is seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide comprehensive care for athletes and patients in preventive, emergency, and rehabilitative settings. You will document treatment per policy and support Orthopaedics.

The role includes developing community programs, staffing community events, and covering contracted schools, with collaboration in the Musculoskeletal Institute. Strong communication and rehab skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a PA license in Athletic Training.
  • Must be certified through BOC.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • BLS and CPR certifications.
  • Licensed Athletic Trainer in Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Athletic Training Services to Geisinger contracted organizations as assigned.
  • Staff community events and related programming.
  • Cover other contracted schools or changing assignments.
  • Establishes community relations and educational programs for coaches, athletes, and community members.
  • Updates the organization Policy and Procedure manual with annual reviews.
  • Performs initial patient assessments and education distribution.
  • Engages in prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of student athlete injuries.
  • Uses therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment as warranted.
  • Pre-event preparation including taping, wrapping and bracing.
  • Refer athletes for follow-up and diagnostics with appropriate providers.
  • Work as a physician extender to the supervising physician within the Musculoskeletal Institute.
  • Athletic Trainers assist in clinic with medical assistant duties for all patients.

Job Summary

Provides care to athletes/patients in a preventive, emergency, and rehabilitative manner in accordance with Physician's orders, and documents such care and treatment in accordance with medical center’s/contracted organizations’ policy. Assists in the development of and conducts educational and community programs that support the Orthopaedics service line.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and updates contracted organization Policy and Procedure manual with annual reviews.
  • Performs initial patient assessments and screenings, develops and distributes ongoing patient education information.
  • Engages in prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of student athlete injuries.
  • Uses therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation equipment, first aid supplies, athletic training supplies when warranted.
  • Conducts taping, wrapping, bracing and other pre-event preparation.
  • Plans, implements, documents, communicates, and refers athletes to appropriate medical providers for follow-up and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Acts as a physician extender to the supervising physician within the Musculoskeletal Institute.
  • Athletic Trainers assisting in clinic perform medical assistant duties for all patients in addition to the population specific Athletic Training specific duties.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must hold a PA license in Athletic Training.
  • Must be certified through BOC.
  • Must hold a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training.
  • Must hold a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training (education requirement).
  • Certification(s) and License(s): Basic Life Support Certification (Default Issuing Body), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (American Heart Association), Certified Athletic Trainer (Default Issuing Body), Licensed Athletic Trainer (State of Pennsylvania).
  • Skills: Health Care Policy And Ethics Compliance, Interpersonal Communication, Physiotherapy, Rehab Assessment And Care, Rehabilitation Practices/Programs, Teamwork, Therapeutic Treatment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Required), Master’s Degree (Preferred).
