Job Summary
Plays an essential role within the sports health program by assisting physicians in orthopaedic clinics, providing game and event coverage, and ensuring injury prevention. Reports to the leader of the Ortho Sports Health program.
Job Specific Duties
- Demonstrates proper verbal and tactile cues to modify techniques and reduce injury risk during strength and conditioning programs.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and modification of strength training and conditioning programs under the supervision of the sports medicine program leader.
- Provides age-appropriate patient care to individuals from newborn to 21 years old.
- Incorporates infection control, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development into patient care.
- Reports equipment malfunctions, injuries, accidents, or safety issues immediately to the supervisor.
- Delivers competent, appropriate, and effective injury assessment, care, and prevention on the field, including taping, bracing, and preventive exercises.
- Communicates with parents/guardians, coaches, and administrators regarding athletes.
- Completes daily documentation, identifies additional service needs, and facilitates follow-up and referrals.
- Assists with marketing and presenting sports medicine services to the community.
- Practices safety techniques in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Provides excellent customer service in interactions with coworkers, patients, visitors, physicians, and volunteers.
- Communicates effectively with physicians and team members.
- Safely removes fiberglass casts, cleans the affected area, and ensures proper disposal of materials.
- Applies basic fiberglass casts (short and long arm/leg) safely, ensuring patient comfort and safety, and educates patients on cast care and home instructions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field (Required)
- Current licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Florida, maintained in good standing
- CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association, maintained in good standing
- Background check clearance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist preferred
- Certified Athletic Trainer by the NATABOC preferred
- Ability to read, understand, and implement injury prevention and return-to-sport programs
- Ability to develop and modify individualized strength and conditioning programs
- Effective instruction and cueing skills during programs
- Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
