Job summary

Decatur Public School District is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support library services and assist students with tutoring. The role emphasizes one-on-one and small group instruction and collaboration with teachers and staff.

The position requires a minimum of 60 college credit hours and training at an accredited institution, with strong interpersonal skills for engaging with students, parents, and teachers during a busy school day.

Qualifications

Minimum 60 semester hours of college credit.
Successful training at an accredited college or institution of higher learning.
Experience with one-on-one teaching practices.
Knowledgeable of library services and practices.
Interpersonal skills and ability to positively interact with teachers, parents and students.

Responsibilities

To provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring for eligible students.
Assist with classroom management in the library, such as organizing instructional and other materials.
Provide assistance with technology as required by students and staff.
Conduct parental involvement activities related to the library/media services.
Support teachers and staff in implementing "best practices" in the classroom based upon scientifically-based research.
Manage library collections under the supervision of a qualified library/media specialist.
Represent the interest of the library on site-based and school improvement committees.
Other duties as assigned.
