Job summary

Obsolete Site is seeking a library technician to support a broad range of public and technical services at an Army National level facility. The role includes circulation, reference, and reader's advisory duties, along with materials processing, interlibrary loans, and reserves.

The candidate will participate in cataloging, processing, and basic systems maintenance while training others in routine library technician tasks and ensuring branch operations run smoothly.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year of work experience that equipped the applicant with practical knowledge of library or related information services, tools, and methods and procedures. Experience must have been gained at the next lower level.

Responsibilities

  • Circulation and reference/reader's advisory duties, including assisting patrons and answering queries.
  • Cataloging, copy cataloging, and processing of library materials, with familiarity with standard library workflows.
  • Interlibrary loans, reserves, and basic materials acquisition or de-acquisition tasks.
  • Assists in programming, marketing, displays/publicity, and general branch library operations.

Job description

Duties
  • Responsible for or performs a wide variety of public service duties: circulation, reference/reader's advisory, database searching, collection maintenance, programming, marketing, displays/publicity, interlibrary loans, reserves.
  • Responsible for or performs a wide variety of technical service duties: cataloging/copy cataloging, ordering/receiving/processing/accounting for and de-acquisitioning of library materials, shelf inventories.
  • Responsible for or may perform a wide variety of systems application and maintenance which may include standard office software, basic Integrated Library System and PC management. Trains others in the performance of library technician duties.
  • Performs selected administrative management duties to include ensuring internal controls are in place in public services and/or technical services. May manage a branch library or serve as a lead departmental library technician.
  • May perform physical exertion such as long periods of standing, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reading, pushing of loaded trucks; and recurring lifting of heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Incumbent may be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
  • This position requires a work schedule that includes weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid.
