Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist library customers by reserving, checking-in, checking-out and renewing materials.
  • Answer questions and provide information on library policies; refer to librarians for research assistance.
  • Help customers operate library computers, photocopiers, printers, scanners and related equipment; coordinate with ITS/vendors to resolve issues.
  • Process and maintain library materials with accuracy; ship, route and move items as needed.
  • Provide guidance to part-time associates and student workers; supervise as required.
  • Manage circulation, cataloging and acquisitions records in the library system.
  • Assist users with educational technologies like MyCCBC and Microsoft Office; support access to college networks.
  • Support print collection maintenance: inventory, shelf-reading and donations; keep areas neat.
  • Open and close the library when required and ensure the service desk area is organized.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, well-kept learning environment and support accessibility efforts.

Education

High School diploma/GED + 3 years library experience
Associate’s Degree in Library and Information Technology preferred

Job description

The purpose of this class is to facilitate borrowing, returning and reserving library materials for library customers, including faculty, staff, students and other library systems within Maryland, as well as support customer usage of library spaces and resources.

High School diploma/GED and three years’ experience working in a library, or Associate’s Degree and one year of experience working in a library. Associate’s Degree in Library and Information Technology preferred. One year experience working with computers and Microsoft Office software and applications required. Experience with learning management software and library services platforms such as Sierra and SpringShare are preferred. One year of customer service experience is preferred.

  1. Assist library customers by reserving, checking-in, checking-out and renewing library materials.
  2. Answer general questions and provide information on library policies, procedures and programs; refer customers needing additional research assistance to librarians.
  3. Assist library customers with operating library computers, photocopiers, printers, scanners and other equipment provided for public use, including troubleshooting and working with college ITS and vendors to resolve issues.
  4. Process and maintain library materials with attention to detail, accuracy, and in accordance with standard procedures. Ship, route, and move library materials.
  5. Provide guidance to part-time associates and student workers.

Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.

  1. Manage records in the circulation, cataloging, and acquisitions module of the integrated library system.
  2. Provide courteous, hands‑on customer service to students needing assistance with educational learning technology, such as MyCCBC applications, Microsoft Office, other software used for completing schoolwork and accessing the college network.
  3. Participate in print collection maintenance, such as inventory, shelf‑reading, donation processing, and shifting.
  4. Responsible for opening and closing the library as required and keeping the public service desk area neat and organized.
  5. Contribute to creating and maintaining a quality academic library atmosphere that is welcoming, organized, well‑kept, safe and most of all conducive to learning.
  6. Support user experience and accessibility work for library resources and programs.
  7. Support the continuous functioning of the library’s technology assets, including websites, software, and hardware resources.
