Job summary

Sylvania seeks a Library Aide to assist the campus librarian with daily library operations and clerical tasks. Responsibilities include shelving, filing, and helping students, as well as preparing materials for classroom use.

There is responsibility for checkout, inventory, and minor maintenance of library resources. The role emphasizes student interaction and following district procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate’s degree or two years of college coursework preferred
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate
• Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
• Ability to shelve books per district system
• Ability to work well with children
• Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and assistance to students in using library resources
• Check books in/out and collect fines
• Prepare materials for classroom or reserve use
• Coordinate with outside sources for materials
• Prepare bulletin boards and instructional materials
• Read to small groups or listen to students read aloud
• Maintain library catalog
• Assist in inventory and weeding
• Process new books and reconcile with invoices
• Perform routine book and equipment maintenance
