This is professional work, instructing people of all ages in the use of computer applications software and new technologies in specific program area(s), such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM); Leadership, and Character Development. An employee in this class creates and implements programs teaching the use of computers to individuals and groups. The position requires interaction with application software, operating systems, new technologies, and consults with employees/patrons to resolve issues.

This is a \"mandatory-testing\" position that requires Drug Testing.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Performs Computer Lab help desk duty, as assigned
  • Insures the good order, cleanliness, and security of the STEM devices and public computer access points
  • Develops, schedules, and leads STEM and computer classes for the public
  • Provides instruction to staff and general public on internet use and various computer software applications including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, database, and other productivity software
  • Provides continuing educational instruction and trains branch staff in the use of new software, functionality of applicable information resource systems, applications, software, and/or new technology hardware
  • Provides support in the designing of STEM activities and lessons, providing content knowledge in STEM
  • Promotes creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating the public on STEM concepts
  • Creates innovative, hands-on activities that encourage independent exploration, fosters curiosity, develops critical thinking, and builds resilience
  • Develops a collection of reference and self-instruction materials for computer applications and STEM activities
  • Recommends books, videos, electronic resources, new technologies, and other library materials for inclusion in the library collection in support of the educational and recreational classes taught
  • Provides instruction on use of both simple and complex technologies, including, but not limited to, computers, digital technologies, LEGO, robotics, electronics, and emerging technologies
  • Works with community agencies and groups to develop specific programs for special populations (elderly, children, youth groups, church groups, etc.)
  • Develops and coordinates outreach, public engagement, and education activities,including leading hands on activities.
  • Assists with report writing to communicate accomplishments and project deliverables
  • Answers general correspondence by responding to phone calls and email inquiries
  • Performs other duties as assigned
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience: Associate’s Degree or two year technical certificate in a computer related field, teaching, early childhood, engineering and one year of experience in a helpdesk environment; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license from state of residence

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, and repetitive motions. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to electrical currents, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
