Job summary

Winthrop University is seeking a Library Specialist for Resource Acquisition & Description to support collection development and access to library resources. The role involves handling new resources, processing, catalog maintenance, and supervision of student workers.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree with library experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of library experience.
• Knowledge of library organization, procedures and services.
• Effective organizational skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to train and supervise student employees.
• Ability to analyze complex problems and conceptualize solutions.
• Ability to work independently with accuracy and thoroughness.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push book trucks.

Responsibilities

• Physically receives new library resources (journals, newspapers, serials, monographs, etc.).
• Completes appropriate physical processing of resources as per their format.
• Performs collection maintenance including shifting, relocation and deselection.
• Maintains the online catalog through bibliographic management and records updates.
• Performs record cleanup and maintenance projects as assigned.
• Provides assistance with budget tracking and reporting.
• Identifies, verifies and resolves problems accessing electronic resources.
• Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates student employees.
