Description

Summary

Coordinates and delivers adult and children’s library programming; Performs community outreach; Reviews and maintains children’s collection; Performs a variety of routine and manual work in circulating and/or processing library materials; Provides customer service to patrons; Collects library fines and fees; Provides marketing and promotion for library programs and services

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Work with community organizations to establish program partnerships and foster an interest in literacy, helping organizations work with each other. Organizations include KPAB, the Garden Club, University of Texas Marine Science Institute, and other non-profit organizations to promote literacy
  • Partners with local school districts to promote literacy through summer break.
  • Act as liaison between the library and community groups and other outside organizations concerning programs and help as needed.
  • Maintain ledger on program activities concerning donations, expenditures, fee payments and participation numbers.
  • Promote all programs and special events by developing and publishing media resources including brochures, flyers, news releases, and social media pages.
  • Supervise and train volunteers to ensure a safe environment for all program participants.
  • Creates program registrations for events.
  • Keeps track of program statistics by age group for Annual Report (TSLAC) • Collaborates with Library Director on community needs.
  • Provides assistance to patrons in selecting and locating library materials.
  • Rotates displays and library decorations according to library programming/events.
  • Instructs patrons in the use of library equipment, online catalog, databases, and public computers
  • Make independent decisions as directed by library policies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversee and directs volunteers used in library programming.

Requirements
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

Degree from college or technical school; and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend documents such a safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skill

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Computer Skills

To perform the job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of internet software, social media, recreation software and word processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid Texas Driver License in good standing, First Aid & CPR

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat; toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places and risk of electric shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
