JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

The Penn State University Libraries' Library Learning Services department seeks Undergraduate Students as Peer Research Consultants (PRCs) . PRCs assist students in the Search Bar, a consultation center where students receive peer-to-peer assistance with library resources and writing. PRCs help develop research skills by guiding peers to the resources they need.

Qualifications

We are seeking undergraduate students who have curious minds, enjoy working with peers, have an interest in teaching and research, and want to learn more about the role of Penn State Libraries in student research. Specifically, we look for students with :

  • Strong communication and customer service skills, in person, in writing, on the phone, and online;
  • The ability to think critically and solve problems on your feet;
  • The ability to work independently;
  • The ability to collaborate effectively during research conversations;
  • The ability to work with other library staff providing services in the Search Bar and throughout the library.

Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter, including their typical weekly availability (including weekends and evenings), class schedule, and other commitments. This position operates during the Fall and Spring semesters, with training and scheduled shifts starting in Fall 2024.

Peer Research Consultants begin at an hourly wage of $13.00.
