Job summary

Every day brings new challenges and rewards! Job Description: General Purpose Performs basic page duties related to maintaining the library collection.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the close supervision of Library Director, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Director, Library Supervisor, Library Technician or Program Specialist.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

Essential Functions
  • Shelves books according to Dewey Decimal System and alphabetical order.
  • Straightens and reads shelves.
  • Checks books in and out as assigned.
  • Collects fines and makes proper receipts; May be assigned specialized collection maintenance assignments in different areas of the Library.
  • Performs cleaning as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. 1. Education and Experience: A. Educational background sufficient to demonstrate an ability to perform the above and related tasks; AND B. No experience necessary.
  2. 2. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to shelve accurately, ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to develop good working relations with fellow employees and the general public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  3. 3. Special Qualifications: None.
Work Environment

Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, and may involve minimal muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of essential functions. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity also utilized in performance of daily tasks. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
