Job summary

Case Western Reserve University is seeking Student Assistants-in-Charge (SAIC) at Kelvin Smith Library. The role requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week for 2 academic semesters and is available to current tier 2 student assistants.

SAICs supervise student staff, handle routine and complex service tasks, and help ensure safe, efficient building operations, especially during evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Student Assistant-in-Charge (SAIC) during assigned shifts.
• Supervise, mentor, and support Tier 1 and Tier 2 Student Assistants.
• Coordinate staffing and adjust workflows to maintain service coverage.
• Assist patrons with complex account issues and policy questions.
• Apply library policies consistently and appropriately.
• Respond to facility or operational issues and escalate when needed.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including safety checks.
• Support training and onboarding of new student employees.
• Ensure accuracy in circulation, shelving, and materials processing.
